Celtic travelled across the city to Ibrox and a date with the old foe Rangers in the game just before the international break. They knew that if they won the game then they would have gone seven points clear of their deadly rivals – but it wasn’t to be. They lost the game 2-1 and as a consequence now find that Rangers are only one point behind them and the race is well and truly back on.

In the game at Ibrox Celtic fell two goals behind after only sixteen minutes, but an Aiden McGeady penalty pulled a goal back on 25 minutes. Despite shouts for another penalty before the goal, Celtic did not have enough in the locker on the day to score another and at least rescue the point. It was the Hoops first defeat of the season and in their seven games played so far they have five wins, one draw and one defeat. They have fifteen points and are now only one point ahead of second placed Rangers.

For their part, Motherwell travel to Parkhead on the back of a 1-0 home win against Falkirk and are now fifth in the SPL table with twelve points. They have three wins, three draws and one defeat to their name so far this season, and have an away record that reads won one, drawn two and no defeats.
