In their last league match before the enforced international break, Lyon travelled to Lens for what was, on paper, a difficult fixture. They came through it with no problems at all though, finishing up with a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Govou and Kallstrom in each half of the game. The great victory was made even sweeter for Lyon when news of Bordeaux’s defeat away to St. Etienne filtered through, meaning that they had climbed to the top of the table.
Lyon now hold the proud record for being the only team left in Ligue 1 that are unbeaten. In their eight games so far they have won six of them and drawn the other two. At home they have enjoyed a perfect four wins from four games and will consider themselves favourites in the upcoming game against Sochaux. Lyon currently lead the way with twenty points, followed by Bordeaux on nineteen, Montpelier on seventeen and Monaco on fifteen.
For their part, Sochaux come into the match on the back of 1-0 home win against Le Mans; a win that moved them up to fourteenth in the league table with nine points. Away from home they have one win and three defeats – the only away win coming on the first day of the season at Auxerre.
