In their last SPL game before the enforced two week break due to international games, Rangers faced hated rivals Celtic in the Old Firm clash at Ibrox. The Ger’s had a stunning start to the game and found themselves 2-0 within the first sixteen minutes of the game thanks to two goals from Miller in the eighth and sixteenth minutes respectively. Aiden McGeady pulled a goal back for the Hoops on 31 minutes via the penalty spot, but Walter Smith’s men managed to hold on to the win and therefore claim the vital three points on offer.
Had the Blue’s lost the game, they would have found themselves seven points behind their deadly rivals with only a few games of the season gone, but the win put them within one point of Tony Mowbray’s mean and they are now right back in it with fourteen points.
For their part, St. Johnstone go into the difficult game against the Glasgow giants on the back of a 2-0 away win at Hamilton. The win moved them up to tenth in the table and they now have six points to their name. The points have come from one win and three draws, but they have yet to win at home this season (two draws and one defeat). Their record against the Old Firm has not been good in recent seasons.
