CSKA beat Besiktas 2-1 at home on Match Day 2. Alan Dzagoev gave the hosts the lead in the 7th minute with a wonderful long range effort that flew into the top corner of Rustu’s goal. Milos Krasic doubled it on 61 minutes with a brilliant solo goal. He ran from the right wing into the box before firing past Rustu. Besiktas pulled one back through Ekrem Dag in the second minute of second half injury time, but CSKA got the three points they required.
Krasic was also on target in CSKA’s 1-1 draw against Spartik Nalchik in the Russian Premier League on Saturday. CSKA coach Juande Ramos is known well to Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson- the former managed Tottenham Hotspur for a brief period in the Premier League.
United were taken the distance by German champions Wolfsburg on Match Day 2, but emerged 2-1 winners in a keenly fought contest. Edin Dzeko headed Wolfsburg ahead, but United equalised through a Ryan Giggs free kick that took a wicked deflection en route to goal. Michael Carrick completed United’s comeback as they picked up their second win in as many Champions League games.
United were also victorious in their weekend Premier League game against Bolton Wanderers. Zat Knight’s own goal, and Luis Valencia’s first ever goal for the club had put the Red Devils 2-0 ahead at half time, but Bolton gave United a scare with their second half efforts. However United held on to win 2-1, and thus took top spot in the table after Chelsea’s loss to Aston Villa.
