After an encouraging 1-1 draw against Stuttgart on Match Day 1, Rangers were brought down to earth as Sevilla crushed them 4-1 at Ibrox. All four of Sevilla’s goals came in twenty five second half minutes as the Rangers defence crumbled. Nacho Novo scored the only goal of the game for Rangers.
Rangers beat St.Johnstone 2-1 in their weekend Scottish Premier League game. Collin Samuel gave St.Johnstone a surprise 17th minute lead, but Walter Smith’s side equalised through Kris Boyd just before half time. Defender Sasa Papac grabbed all three points for Rangers with his beautiful left footed strike on 83 minutes. Steven Whittaker crossed the ball into the box, and Steven Naismith nodded it into the path of Papac, who switched the ball to his left foot before firing an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box.
Unirea picked up their first points on Match Day 2 as they held German heavweights VfB Stuttgart to a 1-1 draw in Budapest. Serdar Tasci put Stuttgart ahead in the 5th minute, but Unirea responded early in the second half through Dacian Varga.
Varga capitalised on an error at the back from Mathieu Delpierre, and blasted the ball past Jens Lehmann from close range. Unirea were beaten 2-1 by Vaslui in the Romanian Liga on Friday. Marius Onofras’ 7th minutes strike gave Unirea a 1-0 lead at half time, but Vaslui came back from behind thanks to goals from Gerlem and Wesley.
