When Real hosted Deportivo La Coruna in the first round of games in the new La Liga season at the Bernabeau just before the international break, many predicted a big result on top of a great performance. They were wrong on both counts. Although Real Madrid eventually won the game, it was nowhere as easy as many were predicting and the final score line of 3-2 could have been very different.
Deportivo actually played well, and both times Madrid went ahead in the score, they managed to fight back with an equaliser. Diarra’s goal in the sixtieth minute though proved to be the decisive one, with Real holding out until the end for the three points. This was anything but the fast flowing “beautiful” football the Madrid fans were expecting, but they are a savvy bunch and know their team of superstars is going to take a bit of time to gel.
