Champions League Live
AZ Alkmaar are participating in only their second ever European Cup campaign this season. Their campaign started poorly though as they suffered a 1-0 defeat at Greek champions Olympiakos in the first game of the group, Vassilis Torossidis scoring the only goal of the game. AZ will find it tough to qualify from Group H and know that their home games will vital if they are to qualify for the knockout stages. The Dutch side have also had an indifferent start to their Eredivisie campaign but will be looking for more consistency in Europe.
The Dutch Champions have a solid side with Stijn Schaars and David Mendes Da Silva at the heart of their midfield. Strikers Mounir El Hamdaoui and Moussa Dembele are a big attacking threat. They also have promising young striker Jeremain Lens to call on from the bench.
Belgian champions Standard Liege were 2-0 up within 5 minutes when they faced Premier League Arsenal in their first group game. Somehow they managed to lose 3-2. Eliaquim Mangala gave the home side the lead on two minutes. Striker Milan Jovanovic doubled their lead on five minutes from the penalty spot. Goals from Nicklas Bendtner, Thomas Vermaelen and Eduardo gave the Gunners three points.
Standard Liege have a strong squad but unfortunately their squad has been decimated in recent weeks. Midfielder Stefan Defour will miss the clash as he is out for three months with a broken foot. There are also doubts over fellow midfielder Wilfried Dalmat and striker Igor De Camargo.
