Premier League Arsenal came back from two goals down at Standard Liege to win 3-2 in their first group game. Goals from Eliaquim Mangala and Milan Jovanovic in the first five minutes gave the home side a comfortable lead. Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner scored the Gunners first before defender Thomas Vermaelen scored the equaliser. Croatian striker Eduardo scored the winner with just nine minutes remaining.

Arsenal will see this as a game they must win if they are to qualify for the knockout stages with ease. However the Gunners are the favourites for this group and should progress to the knockout stages. They do however need to make sure they are not careless.

The Gunners have doubts over goalkeeper Manuel Almunia who has a chest infection. They also have a doubt over midfielder Denilson, who has a back problem. French midfielder Samir Nasri is still out injured.

Greek champions Olympiakos made a good start to their Champions League campaign with a 1-0 victory over Dutch champions AZ Alkmaar, Vassilis Torossidis scoring the only goal of the game. The Greek side will be hoping to make an impact in this competition this year after dominating their domestic competitions. They have won the last five Greek league titles but have struggled when they have played in Europe.
