Juventus finished ten points behind winners Inter in the Italian league last season. New coach Ciro Ferrara has made a number of signings as he aims to build a squad that can wrest the Scudetto away from Inter. Brazilian playmaker Diego has arrived from Werder Bremen, while his compatriot Felipe Melo has been snapped up from Fiorentina.
Uruguayan defender Martin Caceres has been loaned from European champions Barcelona, while veteran Fabio Cannavaro has been captured on a free from Real Madrid. Notable departures include Swedish defender Olof Mellberg and midfielders Marco Marchionni and Cristiano Zanetti. Juve's last game was a pre-season friendly for the Berlusconi Trophy against AC Milan, which they lost on penalties after drawing 1-1 in normal time.
Chievo finished 16th in Serie A last season, and manager Domenico Di Carlo will be hoping that the Flying Donkeys can improve upon their league position this year. Di Carlo took over from Giusseppe Iachini when Chievo seemed destined for relegation last season, and ensured their survival.
Stefano Sorrentino and Luca Arriati are the two big name arrivals at the club. Michel Miskiewicz and Giampiero Pinzi have been loaned from AC Milan and Modena respectively. Hot talent Kerlon will not be playing for Mussi Volanti this season as he has left for Inter.
