Genoa beat Bologna 3-1 in their last game before the break. It was an important win for Gian Piero Gasperini’s men after their 3-2 loss in Europe to Valencia a few days before. The home side took the lead in the 11th minute through Houssine Kharja. Kharja sent Emiliano Viviano the wrong way after Sergio Floccari had been fouled in the box.
A brilliant move down the left flank culminated in Alberto Sculli scoring the second for Genoa in the 35th minute. Genoa were reduced to ten men when Giandomenico Mesto received his marching orders early in the second half, and that pushed them on the backfoot. Bologna pulled one back from the spot through Marco di Vaio but Genoa sealed victory when Alberto Zapater scored their third in the dying minutes of the game. The goal was created by Nenad Tomovic, who was responsible for giving away the penalty that Di Vaio had scored.
A late goal from Wesley Sneijder allowed Inter to beat Udinese 2-1 in their last match. Samuel Eto’o set up Dejan Stankovic for Inter’s opener on 22 minutes, but Udinese were back on level terms five minutes later through captain Antonio Di Natale.
